On one of my entrepreneurial trips with a group of founders and business leaders at various stages of growth, we found ourselves in Switzerland visiting a lifestyle brand company.
The CEO welcomed us into their boardroom and shared their journey. It had taken them more than a decade to get to where they were. Their initial idea was good, but something was missing.
What they did next reminded me of that classic Friends scene where Ross, Rachel and Chandler are trying to maneuver a massive sofa up a narrow stairwell. As they struggle, Ross yells: “Pivot, pivot, pivot!”
That’s exactly what this company did. They pivoted.
When I first thought of a pivot, I imagined a complete change of direction. And sometimes that’s true. But often, it’s just a small shift, a slight diversion, a new skill, a different lens. And that small shift can open up the right path you were meant to be on all along.
In today’s ever-evolving, AI-driven world, we’re all being asked to pivot. What once worked doesn’t always work anymore. The rules are being rewritten in real-time. And in this unknown market, “pivot, pivot, pivot” might just need to be our new theme tune.
Why not try something new, different, or enhanced? Why not lean into possibility instead of clinging to certainty?
Because sometimes, the only way forward is to pivot.
I help leaders, entrepreneurs, and organizations navigate change, embrace innovation, and future-proof their work by blending strategy, technology, and human creativity.
